22nd July: Therfield Heath for Butterflies and Other Wildlife
Leader Martin Johnsson
Meet at the car park off the Therfield Road, which overlooks McDonalds (TL337403), i.e. NOT the Sporting Club car park) at 6.00pm.
The date has been chosen as potentially the optimum time for seeing and photographing Chalkhill Blues, the heath’s most famous resident butterfly (but other mini-beasts will be around, as well as wild flowers), and to avoid my holidays!
Camera equipment could include any close-focussing lens (ideally macro, but also a standard lens). Telephoto or telephoto zoom lenses could be used, but are not ideal. I don’t use a tripod and I work in natural light for this type of photography, but a tripod or mini-pod and flash or on-camera LED may be of value.
