A black and white image which has been modified by the addition of a single tone to the entire image is defined as a monochrome print. A black and white image that has been modified by the addition of partial toning or by the addition of one colour to any part of the image is a colour print and would not be an acceptable image for this competition. |
3 | 29th November | Macro and Close up | Printed Image | Howard King | POTY. Macrophotography is extreme close-up photography, usually of very small subjects and living organisms like insects, in which the size of the subject in the photograph is greater than life size. A "true" macro photograph can be more practically defined as a photograph with a vertical subject height of 24 mm or less. When a regular 6x4 inch (15x10 cm) print is made, the image is life-size or larger. Typical subjects are still life, such as fruit, flowers, jewelry and small household objects. Macro photography often reveals details of the subject not visible with the naked eye. |

8 | 23rd May | Themed Panel (POTY | 3 prints either mounted in one frame ( landscape only) or 3 mounts. | Naomi Saul | POTY! Previously called Portfolio. Each member may enter one portfolio of three prints on a theme of their choice. The theme must be written on the back of each image in the portfolio, along with the author?s name and the date the image was captured. The images can be either mounted individually or placed on one mount. If the images are mounted individually, the images should be numbered 1 to 3 in the order they are to be displayed. The maximum mount size is as per normal competition rules.If the images are placed on one mount, then this mount must be in landscape orientation. The maximum size for this mount is three times the maximum mount size as per normal competition rules.Images can be either colour or monochrome. The judge will be asked to award points on photographic merit as well as relevance to declared theme |

Here below are some helpful definitions: ? Definition of a boat - A vessel for transport by water, constructed to provide buoyancy by excluding water and shaped to give stability and permit propulsion. Boats operate in smaller and or restricted water areas and include ferrying and towing vessels, sailing vessels, paddle vessels, submarines, kayaks, canoes, patrolling & fishing vessels etc. Definition of a Ship - A ship can carry a boat, but a boat cannot carry a ship. Ships are vessels that are operated in oceanic areas and high seas. They usually include cruise vessels, naval ships, tankers, container ships, Ro-Ro ships, and offshore vessels. They are mainly built for cargo and or passenger transportation. ? Definition of Boating: Boating is the leisurely activity of travelling by boat, or the recreational use of a boat whether powerboats, sailboats, or man-powered vessels (such as rowing and paddleboats), focused on the travel itself, as well as sports activities, such as fishing or water-skiing. ? Associated Paraphernalia: Boating paraphernalia such as nets, ropes, buoys, sails etc may be included as the main subject. |
